Identifying previously undiagnosed sleep apnea
Sleep apnea syndrome often remains undiagnosed and untreated. Many pacemaker patients are at risk of having severe sleep apnea and they don’t even know it. For these patients, sleep apnea is associated with high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, and atrial fibrillation. I can’t stress enough the importance of diagnosing this condition.
Improving Patient Management
In my busy practice, I’m always looking out for sleep apnea. Sorin Group’s Sleep Apnea Monitoring algorithm (SAM) can help me out with screening for severe sleep apnea in patients who are at risk. This unique algorithm detects and reports abnormal breathing events during the night, from 12:00 am to 5:00 am, and then allows for a short and efficient follow up.
Helping me to focus on treatment
This reliable algorithm allows me to stay focused on the treatment of my patients. I believe that having a device which allows you to follow up on patients while at the same time giving you continuous information regarding arrhythmias has the potential to be very useful in clinical practice. I can’t tell you how pleased I am that Sorin's SAM is available to my pacemaker patients.
